In appreciation and gratitude, the Liberty Center Board of Education gratefully accepted a donation of $250,000 to Liberty Center Schools from the Annabel (Baker) Norman Estate at the December 16th Board of Education Meeting. These funds will be used for a permanent project, possibly related to the upcoming building project.

M. Annabel (Baker) Norman, 98, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away on October 13, 2013. She was born on December 21, 1914 in Liberty Center, Ohio, a daughter of the late Henry and Luella (Johnson) Baker.  Annabel was a 1932 graduate of Liberty Center Schools.  She was employed for 10 years as the Superintendent’s Secretary for the Liberty Center Board of Education. Later on, she worked for the Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus.  From 1960-1974 she and her husband, Joseph, owned and operated the Burger Chef stores of Zanesville.  She was a 50 year member of the Order of Easter Star Pacific Chapter #63 in Liberty Center and served as Worthy Matron in 1936, and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Muskingum Chapter #485 in Zanesville.  Also, she was a life member of Soroptimist International of Zanesville.

The Board of Education and I were very pleasantly surprised at this generous gift given to Liberty Center Schools.  I would also like to thank Brian Baker and Janet Zachrich for meeting with us to present Annabel’s gift and to help us get to know about this generous woman who left such a wonderful legacy to students at Liberty Center Local Schools.
